President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador is currently being received with full honors during his official state visit to Costa Rica. The event began with a warm welcome from Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves, followed by an official ceremony that included the playing of both national anthems and the presentation of each country’s high-level delegations.
President Bukele is accompanied by a distinguished Salvadoran delegation, including Alexandra Hill Tinoco, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sofía Medina, Presidential Communications Secretary; Oscar Toledo, Salvadoran Ambassador to Costa Rica; Gustavo Villatoro, Minister of Justice and Public Security; Daniel Álvarez, Director of Energy, Hydrocarbons, and Mines; Rodrigo Ayala, President of El Salvador’s Investment and Export Promotion Agency; and Morena Valdez, Minister of Tourism, among others.
After the welcoming ceremony, the two presidents held a private meeting, while both delegations prepared for formal discussions and the anticipated signing of several bilateral agreements. Expected agreements include pacts on security, energy, investment attraction, open skies policy, tourism, sports, and cultural cooperation—all aimed at strengthening development between the two nations.
President Bukele is also set to receive Costa Rica’s prestigious Juan Mora Fernández decoration, with the Grand Cross Gold Plate being awarded to select international leaders of high distinction.
