Avianca has announced the launch of a new direct route connecting San Salvador to Medellín, Colombia, starting October 27, 2024. The new route will offer Salvadorans a more convenient way to explore the vibrant Colombian city, renowned for its cultural richness and business opportunities.
The direct route will operate daily, with flights departing from San Salvador at 10:10 p.m. and landing in Medellín at 1:55 a.m. The return flight leaves Medellín at 3:20 a.m. and arrives at El Salvador International Airport by 5:00 a.m. Rolando Damas, Avianca’s Sales Director for North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, expressed enthusiasm for the new route, stating, “We are thrilled to offer our passengers the chance to experience Medellín, furthering our mission to connect people and foster international ties.”
The route will be serviced by Avianca’s Airbus A320, with a capacity of 180 passengers and seven weekly flights. This addition brings Avianca’s total direct routes from El Salvador to 27, reinforcing the airline’s leadership in the region and its commitment to offering accessible travel options.
Federico Anliker, President of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), noted the growing demand for air travel in El Salvador. “This year alone, El Salvador International Airport has handled over 4.3 million passengers, a 21% increase compared to the same period last year,” Anliker highlighted.
Avianca’s extensive network includes 147 routes, nearly 710 daily flights, and a fleet of 140 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, connecting more than 75 destinations in 25 countries across the Americas and Europe. Recognized for its punctuality, Avianca was awarded first place in the “Global Airlines” category by Cirium in 2023, transporting over 32.2 million passengers on more than 213,000 flights.
