European Union Launches Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Program in El Salvador.

The European Union (EU) delegation in El Salvador announced yesterday the opening of applications for the prestigious Erasmus Mundus master’s scholarships, providing Salvadoran students with the chance to study in two European countries and earn a joint or double degree.

Ana Coimbra, head of EU Cooperation in El Salvador, highlighted that these scholarships cover all tuition fees, travel expenses to the host countries, accommodation, and a monthly allowance of $1,400. “The Erasmus Mundus program finances mobility opportunities for students worldwide, ensuring an excellent academic level. Europe offers high-quality education and a unique cultural experience, allowing Salvadorans to engage with 27 to 30 different cultures,” Coimbra stated.

To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must demonstrate a strong command of the English language, evidenced by certifications such as TOEFL, TOEIC, or Cambridge. Additionally, candidates must possess a university degree with certified transcripts, provide a letter of recommendation, submit a brief application essay, and maintain an average grade of 8.5 or higher. The application window will remain open until February 2025.

Interested Salvadorans who meet these requirements can explore available programs by visiting Erasmus Mundus Catalogue. Coimbra noted that there are currently 191 training programs available for application.

Since the program’s introduction in Latin America in 2014, over 45 Salvadorans have benefited from Erasmus Mundus master’s degrees. This year, the EU aims to double the number of Salvadoran enrollees for the 2025 academic year, launching the campaign “Take the Journey of Your Life” to promote these opportunities through social media, mass media, and university visits.

Additionally, El Salvador now has representatives in the Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA), where former students assist prospective applicants. The representatives, Fernando Castellanos, a student of the Master in Research and Innovation in Higher Education, and Andrea Herrera, a student of the Master in Marine Environments and their Resources, are available for inquiries at elsalvador@em-a.eu.

The Erasmus Mundus program not only opens doors to academic excellence but also fosters international connections and cultural exchange, making it a valuable opportunity for Salvadoran students looking to broaden their horizons.
