Conapina Launches Airport Office to Assist Vulnerable Returned Migrant Children.

The National Council for Early Childhood, Childhood and Adolescence (Conapina) has inaugurated a new office at El Salvador’s International Airport, aimed at enhancing the support for returned migrant children and adolescents. This initiative is designed to facilitate their reintegration and ensure a brighter future alongside their families.

In a statement on social media platform X, Conapina emphasized that the new facility provides a safe and welcoming environment for vulnerable youth. The establishment of the office was made possible through the collaborative efforts of German cooperation, Aldeas Infantiles SOS, and the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), all committed to safeguarding the rights of children and adolescents.

Conapina’s director, Linda Amaya, highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that trained staff will offer sensitive and respectful care tailored to the unique needs of returned migrant youth. “Our goal is that from the first moment they set foot on Salvadoran soil, girls, boys, and adolescents feel that they are in a safe place, where they will be heard and protected,” Amaya stated.

The opening of this office is expected to improve the quality of immediate care for returned migrant youth, enabling the systematic collection of vital information regarding their circumstances and needs. This data is crucial for developing effective public policies and programs aimed at preventing irregular migration and bolstering child protection systems in El Salvador.

As Conapina embarks on this important mission, the focus remains on ensuring that all returned migrant children and adolescents receive the support they need to thrive in their home country.
