Embrace Nature and Sustainability at El Jícaro, El Salvador: A Leader in Eco-Tourism and Culinary Experiences.

Nestled in the picturesque Zunca canton of the Atiquizaya district, El Jícaro Ecotourism Center offers a refreshing escape into nature, just five minutes from the town center. This innovative destination is designed for those looking to unwind, enjoy local cuisine, and immerse themselves in the beauty of the environment.

One of the standout features of El Jícaro is its unique cabin constructed from asper bamboo, a sturdy Southeast Asian variety that can grow up to 30 centimeters thick. Sourced from Guaymango, this eco-friendly accommodation includes air conditioning, a private bathroom, and a terrace with a dining table, making it perfect for families or groups of friends. Available for rental for lunch or overnight stays, the cabin comfortably accommodates four to six guests.

Tania Rodríguez, the center’s administrator, highlights their pioneering approach, developed with the guidance of Ecuadorian experts. Over five years, they cultivated asper bamboo and created various tourist attractions while also addressing soil erosion in the area. El Jícaro spans 40 acres of lush forest and features 15 tilapia ponds, where visitors can enjoy fresh tilapia prepared in various styles, served in cozy cabins situated among the ponds.

Guests can explore high-altitude trails with breathtaking views, and after a day of adventure, relax by the pool surrounded by greenery. «Improving security in our facilities has elevated tourism overall, and while competition is fierce, our offerings—especially our tilapia and eco-friendly spaces—keep us well-positioned,» Rodríguez shared.

El Jícaro Ecotourism Center invites visitors to experience its unique blend of sustainability, relaxation, and natural beauty, making it a must-visit destination in Ahuachapán Norte.
