El Salvador Shines in Global Safety Report: A New Era of Security.

El Salvador has made significant strides in public safety, achieving a prominent position in the 2024 Global Safety Report’s Law and Order Index. With 88% of its population expressing a sense of safety, the Central American nation now surpasses countries like Switzerland and Luxembourg in citizens’ perception of security.

This index evaluates both citizen security and trust in law enforcement, areas where El Salvador has shown notable improvement in recent years. While Kuwait and Singapore remain at the top with scores of 99% and 94%, respectively, El Salvador’s performance highlights its successful security policies that have reshaped public perception.

Remarkably, the report indicates that El Salvador is one of the safest countries for individuals walking alone at night, further illustrating the shift from a historically negative perception of security. This turnaround is attributed to strong government measures aimed at reducing crime, despite some criticism regarding strict enforcement and the incarceration of about 2% of the population.

As El Salvador continues to prioritize public safety, its achievements in the Law and Order Index serve as a testament to the effectiveness of its policies and a hopeful outlook for future security improvements.
