Major Infrastructure Leap: Los Chorros Viaduct Construction Underway.

In a significant milestone for infrastructure development, President Nayib Bukele announced the commencement of column placements for the Francisco Morazán viaduct in Los Chorros, the largest viaduct in El Salvador. This project, spearheaded by the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), aims to enhance connectivity between the metropolitan area of the capital and the western regions of the country.

«This is just a base of one of the columns of the new highway that will connect the metropolitan area with the west of our country. Step by step, brick by brick, block by block,» President Bukele shared on the social media platform X, emphasizing the project’s importance for thousands of Salvadorans who rely on this route daily.

The MOP has successfully installed the first column of the viaduct, part of a broader expansion plan that includes widening the road to eight lanes—from the exit of Santa Tecla to the vicinity of a local resort. Additionally, the MOP is advancing the placement of hydraulic concrete on the lanes of the expansion between El Poliedro and the San Juan Opico detour, part of the third section of the Los Chorros mega project.

Minister of Public Works Romeo Rodríguez noted, «We plan to do the first pouring of the footing for the 16 columns that will support the bridge in the next few days.»

In parallel to this major project, the MOP is also addressing infrastructure challenges, such as a gully in the San Enrique urbanization of Soyapango, which formed after a pipe collapse. The MOP is working to protect local families and maintain connectivity, with similar interventions planned in the Italia district and the Olocuilta sector.

As the Los Chorros viaduct progresses, the government is committed to enhancing El Salvador’s infrastructure and ensuring the safety and mobility of its citizens.
