San Salvador’s iconic Cine Libertad, located in the heart of the city’s Historic Center, is currently undergoing a significant transformation. The renovation will see the beloved theater turned into a modern, four-level cinema complex featuring state-of-the-art movie theaters, dining areas, a rooftop terrace, a plaza, and an audiovisual arts center.
The ground floor will host the main entrance, ticket booths, a café area, a lobby, a concession stand, a cinema hall, and an IMAX theater. It will also feature a Cinemateca Nacional library café, vertical circulation, restrooms, and services catering to both locals and international visitors.
The second floor will house more IMAX screens, a workshop classroom, a video archive, transfer and copying rooms for the Cinemateca Nacional, and additional amenities such as concession stands and restrooms.

The third floor will focus on the IMAX projection rooms and waiting areas, while the fourth floor will offer a unique combination of commercial spaces, an outdoor screening area, a food court, a museum for the Cinemateca Nacional, and administrative offices.

Crowning the new Cine Libertad, the iconic rooftop will feature a terrace with seating, preserving the theater’s historic nameplate, which has already been refurbished.
This ambitious project is set to revitalize a cultural landmark, bringing together cutting-edge entertainment and the rich cinematic history of San Salvador.
