El Salvador now holds the lowest prices for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) across Central America, following the most recent price reduction in the country, according to the Director General of Energy, Hydrocarbons, and Mines, Daniel Álvarez.
In his statement, Álvarez also confirmed that El Salvador is experiencing its third consecutive drop in gasoline prices, maintaining the lowest fuel costs in the region for the first two weeks of September.
“El Salvador maintains some of the lowest LPG prices in the region. While we do not control fuel prices, we can conduct inspections to ensure that the set prices are being adhered to,” Álvarez remarked.
He further explained that, in light of the recent drop in gasoline prices, additional personnel have been deployed to conduct verification checks at gas stations across the country. These checks ensure that the stations are complying with the established prices.
“Inspections are intensified when anomalies arise, and the public files complaints. We also ensure that gasoline pumps are functioning correctly. We respond when complaints are filed, whether through social media, call centers, or other channels, but regular inspections are routine,” Álvarez added.
Álvarez also clarified that fuel prices are determined by global oil producers and refiners, and that the ministry’s role is to ensure compliance with the established prices once the gasoline reaches the distributors.
“We verify the quality and quantity of fuels, as well as technical and safety aspects at service stations,” Álvarez stated. He emphasized that these inspections will continue across the country in the coming days.
