Explore El Salvador with ISTU’s Upgraded Happy Buses: Greater Comfort and New Destinations Await.

In a significant move to enhance national tourism, the Government of President Nayib Bukele has officially unveiled a newly renewed fleet of Happy Buses from the Salvadoran Institute of Tourism (ISTU). This initiative is part of a broader effort to invigorate the tourism sector, a key driver of El Salvador’s economy, and to establish the country as a prominent destination in the region.

The launch event, held last Sunday, marked the beginning of a new era for the Happy Buses, which have been a staple of Salvadoran tourism for 50 years. «Today, more than ever, we needed to provide a high-quality service,» stated Eny Aguiñada, President of ISTU. The revamped fleet promises to offer Salvadoran families and tourists a more comfortable and secure travel experience.

The updated buses are now servicing the 17 recreational centers managed by ISTU and will soon expand to include additional destinations. This expansion aims to provide both national and international visitors with more choices for enjoying weekends and holiday periods.

Reservations for the Happy Buses are now required and can be made by calling 7517-9169. An online booking system is also set to be introduced shortly, allowing for advance ticket purchases. The new departure point for the buses is conveniently located just two blocks from the El Calvario church, ensuring easy access for travelers.

Additionally, ISTU is investing over $6 million in the improvement and refurbishment of the Costa del Sol Recreational Park, a project being completed in three phases. This investment underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s recreational and tourist infrastructure.
