The Vice Minister of Diaspora and Human Mobility, Cindy Portal, announced the expansion of driver’s license renewal services at Salvadoran consulates. The new service is now available at the consulate in Houston, Texas, and has been rolled out to ten of the 28 Salvadoran consulates in the United States. This includes consulates in Texas and several other cities such as Duluth, Boston, Long Island, and Springdale.
Portal highlighted that, on July 14, the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs formalized an agreement to extend these services to Salvadoran consulates across Europe. Renewals will now be offered in Barcelona, Seville, Rome, Milan, Stockholm, Berlin, and Paris, benefitting over 65,000 Salvadorans residing in these locations.
In addition, the service will be launched in Central America on Saturday during an event at the Salvadoran embassy in Guatemala. This initiative is expected to benefit approximately 60,000 Salvadorans across the region.
Portal emphasized that the renewal process remains straightforward and costs the same as it does in El Salvador. Salvadorans interested in renewing their licenses should visit the web portal https://sertracen.com.sv to complete the online process, including payment and selecting their consulate for pickup. The process requires in-person validation with fingerprints at the consulate.
“This service aims to simplify and streamline the renewal process for Salvadorans abroad,” Portal stated. “We are committed to providing accessible and efficient services for our diaspora.”
