During a visit to the Terrorism Containment Center (CECOT), U.S. congressmen expressed gratitude towards President Nayib Bukele for his security strategy, which they credited with preventing gang killers from reaching the United States.
«Many of the individuals confined here would have gone to the United States and would have attacked Americans. We are grateful to President Nayib Bukele and his government for enforcing security and the State of Exception, and for all the good work they do here to maintain safety,» stated Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida.
Gaetz is leading a delegation of four Republican congressmen to El Salvador. He emphasized that gang members confined in CECOT are not committing «murders» or «robberies,» highlighting that President Bukele’s security policies should be «replicated so that other nations can have security, hope, and prosperity.»
The visit underscores growing U.S. interest in Bukele’s approach to combating gang violence, as El Salvador seeks to stabilize its security situation and prevent threats from reaching neighboring countries, particularly the United States. The delegation’s positive reception of Bukele’s policies suggests potential avenues for cooperation in regional security efforts moving forward.
