The government of President Nayib Bukele is committed to restoring quality public spaces for the people of El Salvador. In line with this commitment, significant efforts are underway to revitalize the Historic Center of San Salvador.
These initiatives aim to return this crucial cultural, tourist, and social gathering spot to the public, allowing families to enjoy it safely and healthily. The Ministry of Public Works is actively involved, focusing on installing underground cabling to reduce visual pollution. Additionally, the area is being transformed into a pedestrian-only zone, providing a unique experience for both residents and tourists.
“This is beautiful, something that has renewed everything. Today, people can go out without fear, we walk freely and confidently. We are experiencing new things, things that were never seen before; there are new opportunities. Everything is excellent. Thanks to everyone who works hard every day for these changes; I am happy,” said resident Guadalupe León.
The intervention also includes planting trees and other ornamental plants to enhance the natural beauty of the area.
The administration is dedicated to the recovery of public spaces, as demonstrated by the ongoing work in the Historic Center of San Salvador. These efforts, which began during President Bukele’s tenure as mayor in 2015, have now gained greater momentum.
“A very well-executed management, thinking about the people and not in personal benefits, but really for the people. In the populous neighborhoods where most Salvadorans live, what were once very complex and unsafe communities now tell a different story,” commented resident Claudia Madrid.
Through these public works development initiatives, President Bukele’s government continues to reclaim and refurbish public spaces that the population previously could not enjoy.
