Second Major Drug Seizure in a Week by El Salvador Navy Sets New Record.

President Nayib Bukele announced a significant drug bust conducted by the National Navy in international waters, marking the furthest operation ever carried out by the nation’s maritime forces.

According to the President, 1.4 tons of cocaine, valued at $35 million, were intercepted 882 nautical miles (1,633 kilometers) southwest of Bocana El Cordoncillo, Estero de Jaltepeque. This marks the second major blow against narcotrafficking by the government in less than a week, following a similar seizure just five days prior at a distance of 880 nautical miles.

«Less than five days after another major drug seizure, our National Navy intercepted another boat 882 nautical miles (1,633 kilometers) southwest of Bocana El Cordoncillo, Estero de Jaltepeque, with two Ecuadorian nationals on board. It is estimated to contain approximately 1.4 tons of cocaine, valued at around $35 million. This operation has just broken the record set five days ago for the furthest drug seizure from our shores in El Salvador’s history. The previous record distance was 880 nautical miles (1,630 kilometers). One of the traffickers died after firing at our marines and being neutralized in self-defense,» President Nayib Bukele stated.

This latest interception underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking and enhancing maritime security.
