El Salvador’s National Navy intercepted a vessel carrying 1.3 tons of cocaine, valued at approximately $32.5 million, 880 nautical miles (1,630 kilometers) southwest of Bocana El Cordoncillo, Estero de Jaltepeque.
“The vessel had three crew members on board, one Ecuadorian and two Colombians. It is estimated to have transported 1.3 tons of cocaine, valued at around $32.5 million,” announced President Nayib Bukele.
According to President Bukele, another vessel, believed to be responsible for receiving the drug shipment, was also located. On this second vessel, three additional individuals, all Mexican nationals, were found.
Bukele highlighted that this operation marks the furthest drug seizure from El Salvador’s coast in the country’s history.
“The distance at which the drugs were seized exceeds the distance between El Salvador and the Galapagos Islands, or between El Salvador and Colombia. The previous distance record was 515 nautical miles (972 kilometers),” the president noted.
