May 1st marked the inauguration of the new Legislative Assembly for the period 2024-2027, following the election of 60 deputies on February 4th. The assembly convened in the Blue Hall, witnessing a significant shift with the reduction of seats from 84 to 60.
The political party Nuevas Ideas, securing 54 seats, led the procession into the Blue Hall, which underwent some modifications in its seating arrangement to accommodate the reduced number of legislators.

In the maiden session’s agenda, Deputy Raúl Castillo of the cyan party and legislator Reynaldo Carballo of the PDC, as part of the preparatory commission, established the installation committee. This committee was tasked with reviewing and presenting the credentials of the elected legislators and the proposals for the new six-member Board of Directors, down from eight.
The Board of Directors was elected through a public and nominal vote. Deputy Ernesto Castro secured his position as the President of the Legislature for the 2024-2027 term with a total of 58 votes in favor, 2 abstentions, and no votes against.
Additionally, legislator Suecy Callejas was elected as the first Vice President of the Legislative Assembly with 58 votes in favor and two abstentions. Deputy Rodrigo Ayala of the cyan party was re-elected as the second Vice President with 57 votes in favor.
Legislator Elisa Rosales also retained her position as the first secretary of the Board of Directors with 57 votes in favor. For the role of second secretary, Deputy Reynaldo Cardoza of the PCN was elected with 57 votes for the period from May 1st to October 31st, 2025. Likewise, Deputy Serafín Orantes of the same party was elected as the second secretary from November 1st, 2025, to April 30th, 2027.
Completing the Board of Directors, Deputy Reynaldo Carballo of the PDC was elected as the third secretary with 57 votes.
During the installation session, Ernesto Castro, the incoming President of the Legislative Assembly, took his oath, subsequently administering oaths to the 60 elected deputies and members of the Board of Directors.
The installation session concluded with a prayer led by President Ernesto Castro, who then delivered a gratitude-filled speech, setting the tone for the legislative term ahead.
