Ilopango International Airport Earns Aerodrome Operator Certification, Paving the Way for Enhanced Aviation in El Salvador.

El Salvador’s Ilopango International Airport has officially received the Certification of Aerodrome Operator, solidifying the country’s position as a regional leader in the aviation industry. The certification ceremony, attended by key figures in the sector, marks a significant step forward for tourism and business opportunities in El Salvador.

Among the notable participants were Federico Anliker, President of the Executive Autonomous Port Commission (CEPA); Homero Morales, CEO of the Civil Aviation Authority of El Salvador; and Morena Valdez, Minister of Tourism. Together, they celebrated the achievement that reinforces El Salvador’s standing as a key player in the aeronautical landscape.

“This is a historic and profoundly significant day for El Salvador and Ilopango International Airport as we bring to fruition a nationwide project,” expressed CEPA President Federico Anliker. “Receiving the Aerodrome Operator Certification from the Civil Aviation Authority of El Salvador is a testament to our commitment to ensuring the safety of every operation and solidifies our position as the first in Central America to have both international airports certified.”

The certification follows the inauguration of the state-of-the-art passenger terminal at Ilopango Airport just three months ago, representing the most substantial investment in the airport’s infrastructure in the last four decades. Anliker emphasized, “We have tripled our capacity, enhanced service levels, and now, we are elevating the operational safety standards for both national and international civil aviation activities.”

Addressing the historical significance, Anliker stated, “With the Aerodrome Operator Certification, we are settling a longstanding debt to our country, creating a positive and substantial impact on El Salvador. The Ilopango Airport, as I have always said, is a gem. Many countries in the region would envy having an airport facility like ours, which also serves as a training hub for future pilots, cabin crew, and aircraft technicians.”

The Ilopango Airport holds a special place in the history of civil aviation in El Salvador, recognized as the cradle of many pioneers in the industry. This achievement not only enhances the nation’s status in the aviation sector but also opens up new horizons for tourism and business, further solidifying El Salvador’s position as a dynamic player in the region.
