The renowned Five Coffee shop in Tokyo is now enchanting its patrons with the exclusive flavor and aroma of Pacamara coffee beans sourced from El Salvador.
Yukio Umezawa, the owner of Five Coffee, was captivated by the rich taste of Salvadoran coffee during his visit to El Salvador last year. Impressed by the commitment and quality upheld by local coffee producers, he made the bold decision to introduce this unique product to his Tokyo-based establishment.

The Japanese entrepreneur’s journey into offering Salvadoran coffee began with a personal exploration of the local coffee farms. Witnessing the meticulous processes involved in producing high-quality beans, he was inspired to share this golden treasure with coffee enthusiasts in Japan.
«I fell in love with El Salvador; I was intrigued and charmed by the flavor of its coffee, especially the Pacamara. Its notes and acidity make it easy to enjoy. I’m also impressed by the dedication of the coffee farmers to produce for quality rather than quantity,» expressed the foreign entrepreneur, emphasizing his commitment to continue promoting El Salvador’s golden bean.

Japan has emerged as a significant buyer of Salvadoran coffee in recent years. According to data from the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), between 2019 and 2023, Japan invested $46.3 million in Salvadoran coffee. Recognizing the growing demand, the Salvadoran Embassy in Japan collaborates with local entrepreneurs to further establish the position of Salvadoran coffee in Japan, currently holding the top spot in coffee purchases among Asian nations.
«Japan is a crucial market for us. We appreciate your trust in the quality of our aromatic coffee and your recognition of the hard work and dedication of our coffee farmers,» expressed Salvadoran Ambassador Diego Dalton to the owner of Five Coffee.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that this collaboration aims not only to enhance the promotion of Salvadoran coffee but also to foster more partnerships for increased exports to Asia. As El Salvador continues to make its mark on the global coffee stage, these international connections open up new possibilities for both nations, creating a win-win scenario in the world of coffee commerce.
