In a bid to enhance bilateral tourism, El Salvador and Panama recently joined forces to explore opportunities for marketing tourism packages that showcase the cultural and natural treasures of both nations. The Panama Tourism Authority and El Salvador’s Ministry of Tourism organized a Familiarization Trip (FamTrip), hosting seven Salvadoran tour operators to acquaint them with Panama’s diverse tourist offerings, destinations, activities, and travel experiences.
The Central America Tourism Agency (CATA) highlighted that the primary goal of the FamTrip was to foster collaboration and promote the marketing of tourism packages that highlight the cultural and natural riches of both nations.
“Throughout the FamTrip, the group of tour operators had the chance to explore various strategic destinations in Panama, including iconic places such as Gamboa, Parara Pururu, Isla Caña, Isla Iguana, and Playa Venao. They also took part in significant events like the Mud Board Meeting and the Parade of a Thousand Polleras. This immersive experience allowed participants to firsthand discover the diversity and tourist attractions Panama has to offer,” stated CATA in a press release.
Emphasizing the significance of such initiatives, CATA underscored the pivotal role of both countries as strategic points for attracting tourists, whether by air or sea. This further strengthens the regional strategy to market Central America as a multi-destination hub.
“The execution of this FamTrip is a solid step towards the effective implementation of the bilateral agreement, emphasizing the commitment of both nations to promote mutual collaboration, strengthen the tourism sector, and advance regional integration,” emphasized CATA.
The initiative is set to be replicated in El Salvador with the participation of Panamanian companies in the coming weeks. El Salvador’s Ambassador to Panama, Diana Vanegas, highlighted the importance of such activities for companies to gain an in-depth understanding of tourism attractions, enabling them to promote them more effectively to the public.
Ambassador Vanegas also expressed interest in working jointly and coordinating strategies to enhance tourist flows in both directions. “We want Panamanians to travel and enjoy all the wonderful things that El Salvador has to offer to the world,” she emphasized.
The collaborative FamTrip stands as a testament to the commitment of El Salvador and Panama to not only boost their individual tourism sectors but also to strengthen ties and promote the richness of Central America as a premier tourist destination.
