Boost in Business Along La Libertad Beaches due to Tourism and Enhanced Security.

Local businesses along the beaches of La Libertad are experiencing a remarkable surge in sales, thanks to a combination of increased tourism and enhanced security measures. The Ministry of Public Works has recently expanded the Litoral highway, stretching from the Surf City overpass roundabout to the El Sunzal and El Obispo beaches. This infrastructure investment, coupled with safety measures, has proven to be a boon for the commercial sector, according to local vendors.

Owners of establishments in El Tunco, El Sunzal, and the port of La Libertad have reported a significant uptick in both local and international sales over the past few months. Roy Ramos, a trader from Glady Mar beachfront, situated in El Sunzal, mentioned an upswing in nighttime tourism, prompting them to extend operating hours to meet the growing demand, translating into increased revenue and sales.

«There’s a substantial increase in Salvadorans and foreign visitors. While we typically saw North Americans, there’s been a significant influx of Guatemalans and Asians coming to enjoy seafood. What all tourists consistently note is that El Salvador has become a safe haven; that’s the highlight for the country. Sales and visits have doubled, signifying a significant positive shift in the area,» remarked Ramos.

Karla Guevara, a boutique owner on the access street to El Tunco beach, echoed a similar sentiment. Despite her short time catering to clients, she identified a growing interest among tourists in purchasing local products. Guevara emphasized that security is one of the most valued aspects for visitors.

«The number of foreigners coming in has increased. Tourists frequently mention the issue of security; some say it’s the reason they come to the country. Products related to the president, such as caps and shirts, also sell exceptionally well,» explained Guevara.

Along the La Libertad coastline, President Nayib Bukele’s government has invested significantly in road infrastructure and tourist attractions like Sunset Park, along with spaces for sales and restaurants. Foreign tourists, whether surfing enthusiasts or families looking to unwind, flock to these beaches from the early hours of the day.

Romeo Rodríguez, the Minister of Public Works, recently disclosed that when they opened the Surf City Road in 2021, local businesses reported increased revenues in the vicinity of this new public space. «However, according to studies, the tourism sector’s income increased by 72% by just opening the Surf City Road,» clarified the official.

Furthermore, the government illuminated over six kilometers of the Surf City Road to enhance road safety and planted various species of trees, contributing to the overall appeal of the area. The combined efforts of infrastructure development and heightened security have not only revitalized local businesses but also positioned La Libertad as a safer and more attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists.
