Brazilian Delegation Applauds El Salvador’s Security Success.

A delegation of Brazilian federal deputies, led by Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, commended El Salvador’s impressive strides in security during their recent visit. The group, which included Bolsonaro, visited the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) and examined the impactful security policies that have transformed El Salvador into one of the safest countries in the region.

Bolsonaro, sharing his observations on social media, praised President Nayib Bukele’s administration, citing a 90% approval rating among the population. The Brazilian legislator highlighted the success of the Plan Control Territorial (PCT) and the state of emergency, leading to over 500 days without homicides and the apprehension of 75,000 criminals, mainly gang members.

The deputy emphasized key elements of El Salvador’s security transformation, such as strategic security measures, legal reforms, power alignment, and the elevation of the security forces’ status. Bolsonaro noted the remarkable shift from El Salvador being the world’s most violent in 2015 to a security benchmark.

President Bukele’s commitment to law enforcement has significantly reduced gang-related activities since 2019, positioning 2023 as El Salvador’s safest year. This enhanced security climate has spurred growth in the economy, tourism, and education, with President Bukele attributing the success to the dignification of law enforcement agencies.

Bolsonaro concluded, “President Bukele’s approach, with increased personnel, better remuneration, social security support, and technology, has transformed El Salvador. It now makes sense to build schools in areas once dominated by gangs, and tourism receives special attention as an economic driver.”
