Ilopango International Airport as New Passenger Terminal Inaugurated.

The Government of El Salvador marked a historic moment on Thursday with the inauguration of the new passenger terminal at Ilopango International Airport. The event was presided over by Federico Anliker, the President of CEPA, who emphasized the significance of this investment in modernizing the airport after nearly six decades.

This transformative project, with an investment exceeding $684,000, has tripled the passenger terminal’s capacity, resulting in elevated service levels, enhanced security standards, and the ability to accommodate up to 40,000 travelers annually.

President Anliker, highlighted the neglect suffered by the airport in previous years, stating, «After almost 60 years, we are making these historic investments in El Salvador. Previous governments wanted to abandon it; some even proposed converting it into a bus terminal.»

The new terminal boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including waiting and executive meeting rooms, crew rest areas, and offices for key institutions such as the General Customs Directorate, General Directorate of Migration and Aliens, and the National Civil Police (PNC).

«We’ve constructed new offices for Immigration, Customs, PNC, and the international health office. Additionally, we have a modern waiting lounge, expanded parking for 120 vehicles, signage, electrical systems, and air conditioning installations, among other improvements,» explained Anliker.

An integral part of the modernization initiative is the VIP Lounge by AEROCONNECTIONS, a commercial partner renowned for its expertise in VIP lounges.

In tandem with the Civil Aviation Authority and COCESNA, CEPA undertook additional projects, including resurfacing the ALPHA and BRAVO taxiways with over 8,400 square meters of asphalt, and the construction of a 2,250-meter perimeter wall, involving an investment of $300,000.

Addressing aviation safety, Anliker highlighted the installation of a runway edge lighting system on the ALPHA taxiway, ensuring enhanced visibility for pilots and ground crews, a project funded with $75,000 from CEPA’s resources.

The completion of these projects signifies not only a revitalized Ilopango International Airport but also a commitment to positioning El Salvador as a regional aviation hub. The modernized facilities align with global standards, fostering a secure and efficient travel environment for passengers and aviation professionals alike.
