A Chilean company, Outlet de Café, has successfully secured a deal to purchase 18.8 tons of the aromatic beans. The transaction, a result of collaborative efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Salvadoran Coffee Institute (ISC), marks a significant stride in promoting and positioning El Salvador’s “golden bean” in key global markets.
The diverse array of coffee varieties included in this shipment, such as bourbon honey, bourbon SHG 82 points, borbo-paca-catimor blend natural, and borbo-paca-catimor blend natural, underscores the richness and quality of Salvadoran coffee. Renowned for its unique flavor and aroma, the coffee produced in the various mountain ranges of El Salvador continues to captivate consumers worldwide, with Chileans now set to savor this prized commodity.
Outlet de Café, a well-established player in the South American nation’s coffee industry, has emerged as a prominent business initiative that recognized the distinctiveness of Salvadoran coffee. The company’s decision to source its supply from El Salvador reinforces the global acclaim garnered by the local production for its exclusive taste and fragrance.
Patricio Contreras, a Chilean entrepreneur heading Outlet de Café, expressed his satisfaction with Salvadoran coffee, stating, “The balance of sweetness and acidity has resonated well with Chilean consumers, and its popularity is on the rise.” Contreras confirmed the company’s interest in acquiring more of the national product, with plans for three or four additional purchases in the coming year, negotiations for which are already underway.
Contreras and his team visited El Salvador from November 11 to 15, conducting extensive visits to various farms and cooperatives and engaging with coffee producers in Santiago María, Usulután; Jayaque, Sonsonate; and Apaneca, Ahuachapán. This exploratory mission not only confirmed the quality of the coffee but also highlighted the favorable business climate and trade advantages offered by the nation.
The massive shipment of Salvadoran coffee is expected to reach Chilean ports before the end of 2023, with subsequent purchases in the pipeline. The included varieties in this shipment, such as bourbon honey, bourbon SHG 82 points, borbo-paca-catimor blend natural, and borbo-paca-catimor blend natural, showcase the diversity and excellence of Salvadoran coffee.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that discussions with Outlet de Café began several months ago through the Salvadoran Embassy in Chile, a testament to the ongoing efforts of the diplomatic and consular network to promote export opportunities beneficial to the country’s productive sectors. The visit of the delegation, facilitated by these diplomatic endeavors, allowed the Chilean entrepreneur to witness firsthand the coffee processes, origins, and available varieties while establishing crucial business connections. The President of the ISC, Carolina Padilla, and other government officials also participated in these informative visits.
In summarizing these efforts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the purpose of these tours was to enable the entrepreneur to verify the quality of the Salvadoran coffee and establish contacts with potential suppliers, fostering a mutually beneficial partnership between El Salvador and Chile in the coffee trade.
