Towards enhancing El Salvador’s aviation infrastructure, the government is making headway with its ambitious Pacific Airport project. The latest developments, as reported by the President of the Autonomous Executive Port Commission (CEPA), Federico Anliker, indicate that preparations for the new aerodrome are well underway, with international certifications in the works to facilitate its operational commencement.
The Pacific Airport is a pivotal logistical venture championed by President Nayib Bukele’s administration. This strategic undertaking is set to establish an essential aviation link for the eastern region of El Salvador, promoting a hub for economic development.
Speaking at the AeroExpo 2023, President Anliker expressed the government’s substantial investment in aviation infrastructure. He stated, «In President Bukele’s administration and our CEPA management, we are investing heavily in aviation, primarily in infrastructure. Soon, we will lay the foundation for the construction of the new Pacific Airport.»
Anliker went on to reveal that the acquisition of the necessary lands is underway, with some transactions already finalized. «We are obtaining certifications through MITRE, a globally recognized institution for developing advanced aviation systems and certification.»
Additionally, Anliker highlighted the close collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to strengthen ties in executing future aeronautical projects.
Furthermore, he reiterated CEPA’s projections that the new airport will generate approximately 5,000 jobs in its first year of operation, greatly benefiting the local economy.
The Pacific Airport will be equipped to accommodate the transportation of up to three million passengers annually, with the prospect of attracting airlines offering connections to Europe and Asia.
«We are planning for a three-kilometer runway, coupled with the favorable altitude conditions of the airport’s location, enabling direct flights to Europe and Asia,» Anliker explained.
With the relentless pursuit of modernizing its aviation infrastructure and connecting El Salvador to the world, the Pacific Airport project is poised to have a transformative impact on the region’s economy and international connectivity.
