In a recent development, the Finance Committee of the Legislative Assembly approved an executive initiative that injects $2,910,308 into the budget of the National Directorate of Municipal Works (DOM) to further its execution of projects and programs benefiting communities.
With these additional resources, the DOM will be able to undertake vital infrastructure programs for roads and enhance the infrastructure and equipment in public educational institutions nationwide.

Road Infrastructure Boost
A significant portion of these funds, nearly $974,188, will be allocated exclusively to road infrastructure projects. These projects are set to take place in seven different departments across the country, namely Chalatenango, La Libertad, La Unión, La Paz, San Miguel, Santa Ana, and Usulután. This investment aims to improve transportation networks and accessibility for local communities.
Investing in Education
In addition to the focus on road infrastructure, a substantial sum of approximately $1,936,120 has been earmarked for enhancing infrastructure and equipping public educational centers. This investment will go a long way in improving the quality of education and learning environments in these institutions.
During the discussion of the initiative, members of the committee had the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Social Development, María Ofelia Navarrete, along with representatives from DOM, including Edwin Chavarría, and officials from the Ministry of Finance.
María Ofelia Navarrete expressed her gratitude to the committee, stating, «We need these funds to be approved and allocated to the planned projects. We appreciate that, as legislators, you do not hinder initiatives that benefit the people.»
Delia Reyes, Deputy Director of Public Investment and Credit at the Ministry of Finance, explained that these funds would be used for «paving streets, highways, or access roads at a national level to improve the local development conditions in the benefiting areas and for the construction, renovation, implementation, and equipping of educational centers on a national scale to enhance the teaching process at each educational institution.»
Collaboration for Progress
Furthermore, the Finance Committee also approved another executive initiative by the Executive Branch, facilitating the transfer of assets from the DOM to Constructora El Salvador, S. A. de C. V., through in-kind contributions and share subscriptions. This move is aimed at providing the necessary resources and technical support for the development of projects of general public interest.
María Ofelia Navarrete elaborated on this collaboration, saying, «The construction company will work hand in hand with the DOM to meet the demand for projects.»
This significant injection of funds and collaboration between the DOM and Constructora El Salvador promises positive developments in both road infrastructure and education, ultimately benefiting the Salvadoran communities they serve.
