To enhance road safety measures, the United Nations (UN) special envoy, Jean Todt, met with officials from the Ministry of Transportation (VMT) and the National Fund for Victims of Traffic Accidents (Fonat) to learn about the country’s road safety policies and the progress made in securing safer mobility.
The delegation, led by Nelson Reyes, the Deputy Minister of Transportation, along with Paola Bardi, Director of Fonat, and Alfredo Alvayero, Director of Traffic, warmly welcomed Jean Todt yesterday. The aim of the meeting was to introduce him to the country’s road safety policies and to showcase the significant advancements in ensuring secure transportation.
«As we tour the National Road Safety Observatory (Onasevi) alongside Mr. Jean Todt, the UN’s special envoy, we delve into a tool for evidence-based decision-making to foster safer circulation spaces,» stated Reyes.
Throughout the visit, Fonat’s Director, Paola Bardi, highlighted the systematic compilation of traffic accident statistics within the country. These statistics are instrumental in analyzing and redefining strategies that will generate positive impacts, further diminishing national traffic accident rates.
«Your role signifies the research and data evidence that contributes to road safety. Onasevi gathers, analyzes, and disseminates real-time traffic accident data,» Bardi elaborated while presenting to the UN representative.
The collaborative effort between the UN special envoy and the country’s transportation authorities underscores a dedicated commitment to road safety. The utilization of data-driven insights from Onasevi showcases a proactive approach in developing effective strategies to create safer environments for commuters nationwide. As the nation continues its journey toward reducing traffic accidents, this partnership with the UN serves as a beacon of progress and cooperation in the realm of road safety.
