The news of the large-scale logistics infrastructure projects launched by President Nayib Bukele’s government has spread across oceans and borders. This Thursday, the Presidential Commissioner for Strategic Projects, Cristian Flores, met with South Korean company Dongbu Corporation, which expressed interest in several of these mega-projects.
“We are a country with a small population, but with great drive, warmth and a sense of work,” expressed Commissioner Cristian Flores to Dongbu Corporation’s Vice President, Sang-Heui Heo, who praised the “modern environment” perceived in El Salvador.
The Presidential Commissioner provided details to Dongbu Corporation’s representative and team about some of the projects included in the government’s mobility and logistics strategy.
He discussed the ongoing works to expand and modernize the San Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport in El Salvador, and the Pacific Airport construction project in the country’s east, which he highlighted is already in the engineering design phase.
Furthermore, he spoke about the modernization underway at the Acajutla port, which will allow for an increase in capacity. Additionally, he explained the plans for the La Unión Port, in which, besides leveraging its capacity to handle international commercial flow, projects will be developed to establish a ferry between El Salvador and Costa Rica and a shipyard with the capacity to carry out repairs on large vessels.
“It is evident the confidence that President Nayib Bukele generates in all these companies. They are aware that the speed at which the President is leading progress in this country serves as a benchmark for all of Latin America,” stated Commissioner Cristian Flores after the meeting.
