El Salvador has registered 3.9 million visits during the Holy Week vacation period this year. The Minister of Culture, Mariemm Pleitez, provided an update on the influx of foreign and national tourists to different tourist destinations in El Salvador during a radio interview this morning, highlighting the $116 million left by vacationers in the country during Holy Week for visits to tourist sites, hotels, and restaurants.
«The climate of security that the country is experiencing allows culture to have this space to flourish and coexist,» said Minister Pleitez.
The Minister of Culture detailed that El Salvador received 3.9 million visitors between April 1 and 9, 2023, which represents a 77% increase for the country compared to last year.
On the other hand, cultural and public spaces received the visit of 570,000 people, as explained by Minister Pleitez. In the case of the Joya de Cerén and San Andrés archaeological sites, these destinations hosted 1,117 and 1,920 visitors, respectively.
In the case of the Tazumal archaeological site, the arrival of 2,949 people was registered, as it is «one of the most important in the country,» added the Minister of Culture. For its part, the National Palace was visited by 10,131 tourists during Holy Week vacations this year.
Finally, the Salarrué National Exhibition Hall, located in Cuscatlán Park, was attended by more than 7,000 people during the vacation period.
«It has been a complete success, it has been a vacation that has filled us with satisfaction because we saw all our spaces full,» said Minister of Culture, Mariemm Pleitez.
