The 2022 Ranking of the 50 Most Violent Cities in the World has revealed that nine of the first ten cities on the list are Mexican, of which Colima leads the ranking with 181.94 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.
On the other hand, El Salvador, which was once considered the most dangerous country in the world due to its 104 registered homicides per 100,000 inhabitants in 2015, has been dropped from the ranking thanks to the results obtained through the security strategies implemented by the president. The report that places Colima as the most violent city in the world was presented by the Citizen Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice. The president of the organization, José Antonio Ortega, highlighted the data that indicates that, for the sixth consecutive year, a Mexican city represents the most insecure in the world.
Nine of the ten most violent cities in the world are represented by Colima, Zamora, Ciudad Obregón, Zacatecas, Tijuana, Celaya, Uruapan, Juárez and Acapulco. On the other hand, the city that completes the list is New Orleans, in the United States.
The general panorama, according to the report, indicates that Mexico registered 30,968 homicides in 2022. Meanwhile, the consolidated study indicates that of the 50 cities on the 2022 list, they position Mexico with 17 cities: 10 in Brazil, 7 in the United States, 6 in Colombia, 4 in South Africa, 2 in Honduras, and one each from Puerto Rico, Haiti, Ecuador, and Jamaica.
