Norma Torres insists on stopping the use of Bitcoin in El Salvador.

Norma Torres, member of the United States House of Representatives, and Congressman Rick Crawford presented on Monday, the preliminary draft of the Law of Responsibility for Cryptocurrencies in El Salvador (ACES) with the aim of stopping the use of Bitcoin as a legal currency in this country.

Regarding the regulations, Torres stated that she’s after the mitigation of the risks for the North American nation, result from the adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender in El Salvador.

“The United States must have a plan to protect our financial systems from the risks of this decision (adoption of Bitcoin in El Salvador), which seems to be a careless bet instead of a thoughtful embrace of innovation” — she emphasized in the statement posted on her twitter account.

“El Salvador is an independent democracy and we respect its right to self-government, but the United States must have a plan to protect our financial systems from the risks of this decision” she added.

This is not the first time that a project of this type has been presented; in fact, a month ago, Senators Jim Risch, Bob Menéndez and Bill Cassidy were the first to promote it under the premise of protecting the US financial system.
