El Salvador’s tourism has grown by 30% since the Bitcoin Law.

The tourism sector represents one of the most important items for the country’s growth. Therefore, President Nayib Bukele has placed it as the second economic boost for the year 2022.

According to the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, expectations of recovery in this sector have been exceeded, since 1.1 million visitors had been projected and 1.4 million have been received.

“We did a poll to check the activity according to the before and after of Bitcoin. The tourism sector increased in November and December. This increased by more than 30%” — emphasized the head of MITUR.

The implementation of Bitcoin has been a strategy that has attracted the attention of foreign tourists. According to Valdez, the flow of tourist visits has changed since the main visitors were from neighboring countries in the Central American isthmus. She mentioned that 60% of tourists now come from the United States.

“There are three pillars destined for the development of tourism. The first is infrastructure, the second is to strengthen human resources, and the third is everything related to surf tournaments” — indicates Minister Valdez.

In terms of income, the owner mentions that it has exceeded what was projected.

“We had projected $800,000 in foreign exchange; but we obtained more than $1,400 million of income in foreign currency” — explained the Minister of Tourism.
