El Salvador is taking a decisive step toward modernizing its agricultural sector by establishing high-level contacts with GRAIN International, a Singapore-based leader in agricultural biotechnology. During a recent bilateral meeting coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from the Salvadoran Embassy in Singapore met with GRAIN International’s top leadership—including President Shabbir Moochhala and CEO Mandar Godge—to explore long-term collaboration in climate-resilient farming, crop improvement, and scientific capacity building.
The initiative aims to merge Singapore’s advanced Ag-Biotech innovations with El Salvador’s institutional network, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), the National Center for Agricultural and Forestry Technology (CENTA), and the National School of Agriculture (ENA). “During the meeting, GRAIN International expressed its interest in collaborating with the country and exploring a long-term strategic relationship, particularly in areas related to agricultural research, capacity strengthening, technological innovation, plant propagation, and climate-resilient agriculture,” noted the Salvadoran Foreign Ministry in an official statement.
With over 30 years of scientific experience spanning 15 countries, GRAIN International brings expertise in cutting-edge technologies, including speed breeding, tissue culture, artificial intelligence for crop monitoring, and post-harvest technology. Initial phases of the alliance will prioritize academic exchanges and targeted applied research, gradually scaling up to address critical regional needs such as heat-resistant seeds and plant pathology.
Beyond immediate domestic impacts, the partnership carries strong regional potential. GRAIN International highlighted El Salvador’s strategic positioning as a gateway for expanding Ag-Tech initiatives across Central America, signaling growing international investor confidence in the nation’s agricultural transformation.
