El Salvador has expanded its energy infrastructure with the completion of the new Surf City Substation in Tamanique, a strategic project designed to improve the reliability of electricity service and support the country’s growing tourism and economic development.
According to ETESAL, the facility is the first substation in El Salvador to incorporate Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) technology, marking a significant step forward in the modernization of the national power transmission network. The project also includes the construction of a 17.5-kilometer transmission line, strengthening the region’s electrical capacity.
The new infrastructure is expected to provide a more stable and efficient electricity supply to more than 16,495 users, benefiting residents, businesses, and tourism-related developments throughout the Surf City area.
The Surf City Substation forms part of El Salvador’s broader strategy to modernize critical infrastructure, enhance energy reliability, and meet the increasing demand generated by investment, tourism, and urban growth along the country’s Pacific coast.
With the integration of advanced transmission technology, the project reinforces El Salvador’s commitment to building a more resilient and efficient electrical system capable of supporting long-term economic development and improved public services.
