El Salvador Targets Southwest Airlines Amid Tourism Boom

El Salvador is exploring new opportunities to expand international air connectivity as part of its strategy to support the country’s rapidly growing tourism sector and strengthen ties with the Salvadoran community abroad.

According to Milena Mayorga, Ambassador of El Salvador to the United States, discussions are underway aimed at attracting Southwest Airlines as a potential airline partner for future routes connecting both countries.

The initiative comes as El Salvador continues to experience significant tourism growth and increased international visibility. Officials highlight that the country benefits from a strong travel market of approximately 2.5 million Salvadorans living in the United States, as well as rising interest from international visitors attending major sporting events, concerts, and cultural activities.

Government representatives note that strengthening air connectivity with major airlines would further support tourism expansion, facilitate travel for the Salvadoran diaspora, and increase business opportunities between both nations.

As El Salvador positions itself as one of the fastest-growing tourism destinations in the Americas, efforts to attract global airlines such as Southwest Airlines are seen as an important step toward enhancing regional connectivity and supporting the country’s economic growth.
