El Salvador Expands Its Tourism Offer with Ecotourism and Cultural Experiences.

The executive director of the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation (Corsatur), Alejandra Durán, toured several tourism businesses in Cuscatlán Norte as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen ties with local entrepreneurs, diversify the country’s tourism offer, and boost local economies in El Salvador.

One of the main stops was Escondite El Amanecer in San José Guayabal, a nature-based retreat created by a Salvadoran woman who lived more than 25 years in the United States. The project reflects growing diaspora investment in El Salvador and currently provides employment to eight local residents. During the visit, Durán stated: “The goal of this visit to Cuscatlán is to show Salvadorans and foreigners that we have other options to visit, especially as the vacation season approaches.”

Durán emphasized that ecotourism responds to a global trend. “This space invites us to disconnect and reconnect with nature. According to UN Tourism, people are increasingly seeking contact with the environment,” she said, adding that this helps position El Salvador as a comprehensive destination beyond traditional circuits.

The tour continued in Suchitoto with visits to La Terraza de las Marías restaurant and Jardín de las Marías hotel, both owned by Salvadoran entrepreneur Evaristo Alas. Located in one of the country’s most emblematic cultural districts, these establishments attract both national and international visitors.

Through these visits, Corsatur reaffirmed its commitment to supporting community-based tourism, promoting destinations beyond sun and beach tourism, and positioning El Salvador as a diverse country for cultural, mountain, and ecotourism experiences.
