El Salvador continues to establish itself as a leading host for major international events across different sectors, thanks to the climate of development and security that now defines the nation. Beginning today, the country is home to the XI General Assembly of the Intergovernmental Council of the Ibero-American Road Safety Program (OISEVI), a gathering that unites authorities, experts, and representatives from the region to enhance accident prevention strategies and save lives on the roads.
“El Salvador is pleased to host this great event, which becomes a space to exchange knowledge on road safety, share successful experiences, learn from one another, and strengthen understanding. Our country is undergoing a deep transformation. Under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele, we have built the foundations of a safer environment,” said Bessy Guzmán, Executive Director of the National Road Safety Fund (FONAT).
“It is an honor to have you here, not only for this general assembly, but also because we, as Salvadorans, feel proud when we host visitors and show them the change our country is experiencing. This nation is advancing rapidly, making great progress in public safety, and we also want to see those advances reflected in road safety,” stated Nelson Reyes, head of the Vice Ministry of Transportation (VMT).
Reyes highlighted that this year El Salvador has achieved an 8% reduction in traffic fatalities. “It is important to remain vigilant and continuously seek new strategies to improve road safety. We will learn much from this event, understanding that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for public policy,” he added.
During the assembly, Félix Serrano, Director General of Transit, presented a lecture on comprehensive mobility management in El Salvador, noting that “we are a country of 21,000 square kilometers and a population of about six million, concentrated mainly in San Salvador and La Libertad, where the main population and economic centers are located.”
This international assembly positions El Salvador as a reference in promoting public policies focused on road safety, reflecting President Bukele’s vision for national progress. Over three days, participants will take part in plenary sessions, panels, technical visits, and professional exchanges aimed at strengthening cooperation and saving lives on the roads.
