El Salvador Launches High-Value Cacao Reforestation Program

The Ministry of Local Development of El Salvador has launched the “Productive Reforestation with High-Value Cacao” program, a strategic initiative designed to strengthen export-quality cacao production, boost the national economy, and promote environmental conservation.

The program will reforest 600 acres of land using innovative agroforestry systems, planting cacao varieties adapted to local conditions. With an investment exceeding seven million dollars, the initiative will be implemented in 14 priority districts and surrounding areas across the departments of Chalatenango, Morazán, and San Miguel.

Through this program, the Salvadoran government seeks to enhance sustainable agriculture, support local farmers, and increase the country’s competitiveness in international cacao markets, while contributing to reforestation and environmental preservation.
