2025 AI Olympiad: El Salvador’s Young Innovators Gain Global Honors in China

The Embassy of El Salvador in the People’s Republic of China proudly supported the Salvadoran delegation participating in the 2025 International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IOAI), held at the Beijing National Day School from August 2 to 9.

The Salvadoran team, composed of Josué Arístides Meléndez Alemán, Sebastián Enrique Somoza Portillo, José Ángel Cortez Cruz, Karla Margarita Ayala Tobar, and Miguel Alejandro Somoza Portillo, demonstrated exceptional skills in machine learning, algorithm design, and problem-solving during the competition. Their work included developing innovative AI models, optimizing algorithms for real-world applications, and collaborating effectively under high-pressure conditions, reflecting the growing technical expertise of El Salvador’s youth in artificial intelligence.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of Karla Margarita Ayala Tobar, who received an Honorable Mention for her outstanding contributions, emphasizing the delegation’s ability to compete successfully on an international level.

Beyond the competition, the students engaged in cultural exchanges and explored Beijing’s historical landmarks, including the iconic Summer Palace, enhancing their global perspective.

The Embassy lauded these young innovators, stating that their achievements showcase El Salvador’s commitment to fostering talent in STEM and AI, positioning the country as an emerging contributor to international technology and innovation arenas.
