El Salvador Opens New Consulate in Ohio to Serve Diaspora.

El Salvador has inaugurated its 29th consulate in the United States, located in Columbus, Ohio, to better serve more than 17,600 Salvadorans living in Ohio and Michigan.

Vice Minister of Diaspora and Human Mobility Cindy Mariella Portal led the opening ceremony, highlighting the government’s goal of expanding support for Salvadorans abroad. “This is a new effort by President Bukele’s administration to bring services closer to our people, who are key partners in the country’s development,” she said.

Previously, many Salvadorans in the region had to travel long distances to consulates in Chicago, Woodbridge, or Silver Spring. The new office will now offer services such as immediate passport delivery, mobile outreach, and extended hours for those unable to visit during the week.

“This consulate goes beyond documentation. It’s about building community, promoting culture, and connecting our diaspora with El Salvador,” Portal added. She also invited the community to an identity fair on June 21, where residents can obtain their Documento Único de Identidad (DUI).

Located at 200 E Campus View Blvd, Ste 240, Columbus, Ohio 43235, the consulate will operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Elsa Salazar was introduced as the new Consul General.
