New Water Infrastructure Project Reflects President Bukele’s Rural Development Plan.

More than 700 residents of the Santo Tomás canton in Texistepeque, Santa Ana Norte, are finally enjoying access to clean water after decades of struggle, thanks to a new potable water project by El Salvador’s Dirección de Obras Municipales (DOM). The initiative is part of ongoing efforts under President Nayib Bukele’s administration to improve living conditions in historically neglected areas.

The project involved drilling a 200-meter-deep well and building a water storage tank with a control valve distribution system. To ensure safety and proper operation, a perimeter fence with cyclone mesh and metal structure was constructed around the tank and well, including access gates. Additionally, a masonry wall was built in the tank area, along with a filtration and chlorination system to purify the water.

“A total of 1,672 meters of two-inch PVC pipe and 1,381 meters of galvanized pipe were installed. The project also included 50 potable water connections and 27 concrete boxes for control and pressure-regulating valves,” the institution reported.

The project spans over 1.6 kilometers and marks the seventh completed water initiative nationwide, adding to more than 30 similar projects currently underway across the country.
