El Salvador to Launch National Scholarships for Public High School Students in 2026.

El Salvador is preparing to launch a transformative national scholarship program for public high school students, aimed at fostering academic excellence and youth empowerment across the country. The initiative, announced by Alejandro Gutman, honorary president of the Integration Directorate, is part of the Bukele administration’s broader strategy to strengthen education and social development.Ç

«We want every young person in the country to be convinced, enthusiastic, and reflective enough to study,» said Gutman during a press statement on Thursday. “It’s a very important moment in the lives of young people, but it also represents a cultural change for families,” he added, highlighting the deep societal impact the program seeks to achieve.

Set to begin in 2026, the scholarship initiative is designed to support public high school students nationwide, encouraging them to pursue higher education and professional development. Gutman emphasized that previous governments had not succeeded in providing a path for continued education, but now, under the leadership of President Nayib Bukele, students will have the resources and support to build meaningful futures.

“We want to prepare young people in the best possible way so they become not just professionals, but individuals fully aware of their country’s reality,” Gutman stated. “We must do the impossible so that youth discover the future is real and worth pursuing—we will accompany them.”

In addition, the Integration Directorate is exploring the integration of daily virtual English classes, offering one hour of instruction per day to students enrolled in higher education. This effort aims to enhance bilingual skills, giving Salvadoran youth a competitive edge in the global job market.

The scholarship program forms part of El Salvador’s larger vision for sustainable national development, leveraging education, opportunity, and inclusion to reshape the future of its youth.
