Canine Unit Joins Security Operation in Soyapango to Detect Hidden Drugs at Major Bus Terminal.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety, El Salvador’s Anti-Narcotics Division has deployed its specialized Canine Unit to the Nuevo Amanecer terminal in Soyapango. The operation aims to prevent the transport of concealed illegal substances through one of the busiest transit hubs in the metropolitan area.

The dogs, trained specifically to detect narcotics, are assisting security forces in inspecting luggage, cargo, and passenger belongings. The intervention is part of a broader strategy to deter criminal activity in densely populated urban zones.

“The presence of the Canine Unit reinforces our commitment to keep public spaces free of illicit substances,” authorities said in a statement. “Their role is crucial in identifying hidden drugs that might otherwise evade detection.”

The increased surveillance at the terminal is not an isolated measure but aligns with the national security framework that has intensified in recent years. Soyapango, a key point for public transport in the capital’s eastern zone, has become a strategic location for preventive actions.

Officials have urged the public to cooperate with the checks and view the presence of the Canine Unit as part of a larger effort to guarantee safe and drug-free environments across El Salvador.
