El Salvador continues to make significant strides in public safety, with the National Civil Police (PNC) reporting zero homicides nationwide on May 2, 2025. President Nayib Bukele highlighted this achievement, stating, “No security plan, in any country in the world, has achieved what we have achieved in El Salvador.”
This milestone is part of a broader trend in 2025, where the country has recorded 57 days without homicides up to early March, including 26 days in January and 25 in February. Since the implementation of the Territorial Control Plan in 2019 and the state of emergency in March 2022, El Salvador has accumulated 854 homicide-free days, with 741 of these occurring during the state of emergency period.
These security measures have contributed to a significant reduction in the country’s homicide rate, which stood at 1.9 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2024, positioning El Salvador as one of the safest countries in the Western Hemisphere.
The government’s continued focus on public safety aims to sustain this positive trend, fostering an environment conducive to economic growth and investment.
