The U.S. Secretary of Defense shared a video on his official X account summarizing his recent meeting with El Salvador’s Minister of Defense, René Merino Monroy, held at the Pentagon.
In the post, the Secretary stated: “It was an honor to host El Salvador Minister of Defense Merino at the Pentagon. We want to stand strong with allies who stand with us and help deliver peace through strength.”
The video features the Secretary warmly welcoming the Salvadoran delegation and reaffirming the strength of the bilateral relationship. “Well Minister Merino, thank you very much for being here. It’s a pleasure to welcome you and your delegation to the Pentagon. Our relationship with El Salvador is stronger than ever and it’s only just beginning,” he said.
He continued by emphasizing the role of both nations’ leadership in fostering closer ties. “Our presidents have set the tone, work together very closely and we look forward to developing that even more with you as well. President Trump and I, appreciate allies like El Salvador and we are grateful for your partnership.”
The message underlined shared goals between the two countries: “Like you the United States wants our hemisphere to be secure, prosperous and sovereign. So we look forward to our discussion today, and we wanna thank you, all of you for joining us.”
This meeting highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation on regional security and defense between El Salvador and the United States.
