El Salvador’s Legislative Assembly Approves $113.9 Million for Surf City 1 Development.

The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador has approved a $113.9 million loan agreement with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) to finance the Surf City 1 Program. This initiative aims to enhance road infrastructure and boost tourism along the coastal corridor between La Libertad and Sonsonate.

A significant portion of the funds will be allocated to expanding an 8.7-kilometer stretch of road from El Obispo Beach to El Zonte Beach, increasing its capacity from two to four lanes. The project also includes the addition of a bicycle lane, bus lanes, viewing platforms, and parking areas to improve accessibility and tourism appeal.

Additionally, the funds will support the construction of the Pacific Corridor interchange at the intersection of the Litoral Highway and the Acajutla Highway (kilometer 5). This development will feature an overpass, a bridge over the Sensunapán River, and various access and complementary works. The Pacific Corridor project will also include access and exit ramps, drainage systems, landscaping, pedestrian pathways, road signage, and enhanced safety measures.

Furthermore, the Surf City 1 Program will allocate resources for the construction of a sewer system on El Palmarcito and El Sunzal beaches. This 5,854-meter-long system is expected to benefit approximately 10,000 residents, improving sanitation and environmental conditions in the area.

Government officials emphasized that these infrastructure improvements will strengthen El Salvador’s coastal tourism sector, making the region more accessible and attractive for both local and international visitors.
