El Salvador’s Minister of Defense, Francisco Merino Monroy, provided updated figures on the ongoing exception regime that has been in effect since March 27, 2022. The initiative continues to make significant strides in the country’s efforts to combat organized crime and gang violence.
As of today, nearly 87,000 gang members have been captured. Authorities have also seized 4,565 firearms, 10,451 vehicles, and 21,630 mobile phones as part of their operations. Additionally, 37.9 tons of drugs with an estimated value of 920.4 million dollars have been intercepted, alongside 4.8 million dollars in cash.
These results reflect the ongoing success of the exception regime, which aims to reduce violence and strengthen national security. Minister Merino Monroy highlighted that these figures are a testament to the government’s commitment to addressing organized crime and maintaining public safety across the country.
