The Salvadoran Institute of Tourism (ISTU) is designing a project to renovate Los Chorros Recreational Park in La Libertad, aiming to enhance its infrastructure. ISTU President Eny Aguiñada highlighted that the park was restored in record time after being damaged by tropical storms Amanda and Cristóbal in 2020.
“We managed to recover it, though not yet to the full extent we envision. We are working on a design to improve the park’s infrastructure,” said Aguiñada in a radio interview. The project includes upgrades to restrooms, food areas, and the construction of a lactation room and a space for young children.
ISTU emphasized that Los Chorros is an emblematic site, and renovations will be planned to avoid harming the ecosystem. While existing structures will be demolished to make way for new facilities, trees surrounding the park will be preserved.
In addition to Los Chorros, ISTU is also renovating San Sebastián Tourist Terminal in San Vicente and the cabins at El Cerro Verde in Santa Ana. The cabin renovations, which began in November 2024, are expected to be completed by April 2025, in time for Semana Santa.
Other ongoing projects include improvements to Costa del Sol Recreational Park in La Paz and Altos de La Cueva in San Miguel, where ISTU is evaluating bids for the work. Aguiñada assured that these developments aim to provide accessible and eco-friendly tourism options.
