In a powerful message of resolve, Attorney General of the Republic Rodolfo Delgado affirmed that El Salvador will continue to defend its sovereignty and citizens from the corrupting influence of drug trafficking. During a recent press conference, Delgado emphasized that the Salvadoran government remains firmly committed to fighting organized crime and protecting national security.
«In the first days of 2025, our National Navy, in a joint operation, achieved a historic milestone in the fight against drug trafficking,» said Delgado. He highlighted a significant operation that took place more than a thousand nautical miles off the Salvadoran coast, resulting in the seizure of 4.3 tons of cocaine, valued at over 100 million dollars. The operation, conducted in international waters, also led to the capture of nine individuals, who were found aboard four vessels of Ecuadorian and Colombian nationality.
Delgado praised the work of the National Navy and the Drug Trafficking Unit of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), stressing that these efforts are vital in disrupting the flow of illegal drugs that threaten global security. «This amount of seized drugs represents a monumental effort to cut off the flow of illegal substances,» Delgado said, emphasizing that El Salvador is fully complying with international conventions on drug activity.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by El Salvador’s justice system to combat drug trafficking. To date, 134 individuals have been prosecuted, with convictions secured for 63. In addition, 38,830 kilograms of cocaine have been destroyed.
Delgado concluded with a resolute statement: «El Salvador is not a place for crime. Justice prevails, and our institutions are united and stronger than ever in this fight.» He reaffirmed the commitment of the Attorney General’s Office to support the security policies implemented by the Executive, ensuring that the Salvadoran people continue to enjoy the safety and tranquility achieved through these efforts.
