The Public Must Be Better Than the Private: Bukele’s My New School Program Continues to Lead Education Reform in 2025.

El Salvador’s «My New School» program will continue its transformative work in 2025 with the ongoing renovation and modernization of educational centers across the country. Minister of Education Mauricio Pineda confirmed that the program will continue delivering newly renovated schools throughout the year, as the government works to improve education infrastructure.

In the first five days of January, the Ministry of Education (MINED) announced the delivery of two newly renovated schools: the Cantón San Lorenzo School Center in Cabañas and the Hacienda la Normandía Educational Complex in Jiquilisco, Usulután. The Cantón San Lorenzo School, which has been educating students for over 60 years, now boasts modern classrooms, high-quality furniture, luxury bathrooms, and expansive play areas, completely revitalized under the «My New School» program.

Meanwhile, the renovations at the Hacienda la Normandía Educational Complex will benefit over 390 students, providing them with updated facilities designed to enhance both their educational experience and recreational opportunities.

The «My New School» program, launched by President Nayib Bukele in September 2022, is part of a comprehensive educational reform aiming to renovate 5,150 schools nationwide over five years. The program also includes providing technology access, updating curricula, and offering teacher training.

President Bukele, in his inaugural speech for the program, emphasized the nation’s progress in education, saying, “We have already provided quality computers and tablets with internet to 100% of students in the public system, we have approved the Crecer Juntos law, and we are changing the educational curriculum. My New School will be a total educational reform… We will do it like never before seen in El Salvador.”

This ambitious initiative also focuses on early childhood education, health, and nutrition to ensure students have the resources they need for optimal development. The program aims to break the cycle of violence and invest in the future of the country’s youth.

As President Bukele stated, “This will be the largest investment in education in our history. We have already broken the vicious circle of gangs, but to prevent it from arising again, we must invest in the future. And we will do it like never before seen in El Salvador.”
