El Salvador Secures Complete Control of Territory Against Gang Activity.

Minister of Security Gustavo Villatoro has confidently asserted that the government has «complete control of the territory,» citing advancements in technology as crucial for maintaining national security and addressing crime, including gang regrouping.

In a recent statement, Villatoro explained that enhanced intelligence capabilities have enabled the National Civil Police and the Armed Forces to identify criminal activities more effectively. For example, recent intelligence revealed attempts by gang members to regroup in the 10 de Octubre neighborhood of San Marcos, where they sought to revive drug sales.

“There was information about the regrouping of remaining gangs, and behaviors related to drugs have increased in recent months,” Villatoro noted, emphasizing the challenge posed by «useful fools» who carry out orders from gang leaders operating from outside the country.

The minister highlighted the importance of ongoing technological updates, stating, «Day by day we are analyzing information to determine which quadrants have the highest crime incidence. This is part of the transformation of public security.» Within 24 hours of a recent operation in the October 10 neighborhood, authorities reported the capture of three gang remnants and one individual linked to drug activity.

Villatoro acknowledged the vital role of citizen collaboration in these efforts, saying, «We are capturing remnants of gangs on a daily basis.» He emphasized that while some gang members remain abroad, effective communication with international law enforcement has been crucial in identifying and monitoring these threats.

The Security Cabinet remains steadfast in its commitment to the fight against gangs, with Villatoro declaring, “The war against the gangs will not end until the last gang member is captured.”
